Dr. Suellen Kotake was born and raised in Hawaii. After graduating from Kaimuki High School she attended the University of Hawaii for 2 years. To fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian, she transferred to Iowa State University and earned her BS and DVM degrees. When she returned to Hawaii she worked at Care Animal Hospital, Veterinary Group Hospital, and The Animal Quarantine Station. Then she ventured out on her own by starting Vetmobile Pet Clinic, one of the first small animal house call practices in Hawaii. In 1980, Dr. Kotake took over All Pets Clinic-Waipahu, Inc. and in 1990 expanded it. Practicing veterinary medicine for the past 41 years has been a wonderful, rewarding experience enabling her to help clients and their pets. In some families she has cared for the pets of multiple generations. Clients and their pets become friends and like family. Outside of practice, she has served as various officers for the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association and the Honolulu Veterinary Society. She has also served on the Board of Veterinary Examiners. In her spare time, Dr. Kotake enjoys hiking, working out at the gym, reading, kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving. She and her husband, Joe, share their home with a 2 ½ year old Scottish Terrier named Sundae. There have been numerous other pets over the years, each one special in their own way, but one thing that they all have in common, in addition to the love and friendship that they gave her, is that each one taught Dr. Kotake so much. She feels that she is a better veterinarian because of them and is so grateful to have had each and every one of them in her life.
